The English-dubbed version of “The Case Study of Vanitas” was released on Funimation’s website on August 6, bringing the steampunk-styled supernatural mystery manga series to a new audience. With its airships, period clothes, and blue-moon and crimson vampires, the vampire-based anime, set in nineteenth-century Paris, is incredibly atmospheric.
It all begins with Noé, a young vampire who is sent to Paris by his tutor in search of the titular book. He encounters a girl named Amelia — who turns out to be a vampire named Florifel who only wants her name returned — and blue-eyed Vanitas himself after an incident on the airship. Vanitas enlists his assistance in using the grimoire to return the “curse-bearing” vampires to normal.
“The Case Study of Vanitas” has shown 12 episodes of its split-cour season, which is standard for anime shows — but it leaves viewers wondering when Part 2 will run, and what will happen next, given that the plot hasn’t been fully resolved.
Vanitas no Carte Part 2
Here’s what we know so far if you’re one of the fans eagerly anticipating news on the second half of the first season.
When is The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2 going to be released?
The @vanitas anime Twitter account stated on Sept. 17 that “The Case Study of Vanitas” will return in January 2022 for the second cour (or a quarter of a year). This is excellent news because it implies that fans will not have to wait long: The 12 episodes of the second half of the split-cour series will air between January 8 and March 26, 2022, according to Anime News and Facts. These are the dates for the Japanese release, not the English release.
English-speaking fans, on the other hand, should not be affected too much. The first Japanese run began on July 2 (via Anime News Network), which implies it was subtitled with the first episode dubbed by the time it was released on Funimation a month later. Funimation had released five dubbed episodes by September 17th, according to ComingSoon.com (a paid subscription is required to access the dubbed versions of newer episodes).
Hopefully, this implies that by spring, fans in the United States will be able to watch at least the second half of Season 1 with subtitles.
In The Case Study of Vanitas Part 2, who are the characters?
Noé Archiviste, played by Kaito Ishikawa in Japanese, and Vanitas, played by Natsuki Hanae, are the series’ primary characters. Jeanne (Inori Minase), a vampire girl known as the “Hellfire Witch”; Luca (Shino Shimoji), a polite vampire boy ranked just below the queen who is attempting to save his brother; Dominique (Ai Kayano), the aristocratic daughter of the alien lord the Marquis de Sade; Veronica (Yoko Hikasa), Dominique’s sister who despises humans; Ruthven (Toshiyuki
Vanitas’ information brokers Dante (Taro Kuichi), Johann (Koji Yusa), and Richie (Riho Kuma), as well as Noé’s nameless teacher (Akira Ishida), dispatched him to find the book, are among the others. Also appearing are vampire Naenia (Kaori Nazuka), vampire hunter Laurent (Kengo Kawanishi), Holy Knight Olivier (Tomoaki Maeno), and Noé’s first friend Louis de Sade (Miyuri Shimabukuru). Murr, the cat, isn’t forgotten (Miyu Komaki). However, not everyone made it through Season 1, so they may or may not return in Part 2.
Noe is played by Stephen Fu, Vanitas is played by Zeo Robinson, Murr is played by Marianne Bray, Dante is played by Ian Sinclair, and Amelia is played by Hayden Daviau.
