Stapleton, Jr.’s father worked as a coal miner, while his mother, Carol J. Stapleton, was employed as a health inspector at the county health department.

Stapleton grew up in a tiny hamlet called Staffordsville with his older brother, Herbert Joseph III, and younger sister, Melanie Brooke. He attended Staffordsville High School and graduated in 2004. Johnson Central High School is where he received his diploma.

Career

In 2001, Stapleton relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a career as a composer. When he arrived in Nashville, he signed a contract with the Sea Gayle Music publishing firm within four days of arriving. Over the next decade, he wrote numerous successful songs for a variety of well-known artists, including Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Luke Bryan, and Thomas Rhett, among others.

A number of his country songs were co-written with other writers, and many of them peaked at number one on the charts and remained there for several weeks.

Stapleton secured a recording contract with Mercury Nashville in 2013 to explore a solo career. “Valentine’s Day,” “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip,” and “Hell or High Water” are just a few of the films that have featured songs penned by Stapleton, who has also authored a number of them.

2016 saw him perform live in Europe at the Country to Country festival with Kacey Musgraves, Andrew Combs, and Eric Church, among other artists. In addition, he featured as a guest on an episode of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ where he performed the songs ‘Parachute’ and ‘Nobody to Blame’ from the film ‘Traveller.’
