98.5 One of the strangest sports radio stories I’ve heard in a while is on The Sports Hub in Boston.
Fred (Toucher) Toettcher, who was born in 1975 and works at WBZ-FM in Boston and has been a co-host of the morning Toucher and Rich show with Rich Shertenlieb for many years, was late for that show and went on a rant about his divorce, the Black Lives Matter movement, and other things.
Chad Finn of The Boston Globe said that this caused Toucher to leave the show for an undetermined amount of time.
Toucher talked about the situation on Instagram. He refuted claims that he was drunk on Tuesday, which were made by several listeners who tweeted about the show, and said that he was going to check himself into a mental hospital.
But what caused this outburst? Was it problems between Toucher and his wife that led to their eventual divorce?

Fred Toucher is a Marconi Award-winning sports radio talk show host from the city of Detroit. He and Rich Shertenlieb co-host the show “Toucher and Rich.”
Toettcher went to Rollins College and got his degree in 1997. After he finished college, he got a job at a radio station in his hometown of Cumming, Georgia. He started out in the evenings on Atlanta’s 99X in 1999 and worked his way up to the morning show. When he stopped performing in Atlanta in 2006.

He started The Toucher and Rich Show on WBCN in Boston with Rich Shertenlieb. After moving there in 2009, they now air on 98.5 The Sports Hub. The Toucher and Rich Show was one of the most popular radio shows in New England, but it was only supposed to be on the air for a short time while the producers worked on a sports-focused show.

The news that Toucher was divorcing his wife Stephanie Toettcher started to spread in 2020, when Toucher, who co-hosts a popular show with Rich Shertenlieb, said on that show’s Tuesday episode that he was going through a divorce. He was late to the show, and he sounded so angry during the 7 a.m. hour that Shertenlieb told him to take a break and offered to go off the air with him.
He said, “I’m getting a divorce! …Yeah, I gotta relax about the whole divorce thing. It’s something that I really need. …Why is it that I’m, like, addicted to chemicals? Why is that part of it? (Shertenlieb says “Maybe, what are they saying, the way you speak?”) Oh, slurring, and this and that? Are you kidding me? What do you think I did this morning? I was late! What do you think I did this morning, I got up and had 18, uh, Bloody Marys?”

Fred said that he lost his mind in July 2020 because of problems in his personal life. After three months, he posted a photo of his family online with the words, “I made it through these crazy few weeks.”
He hasn’t posted any more photos of them on social media, which could mean they broke up.
