In the 2015 Major League Baseball draft, the St. Louis Cardinals chose Bader with the 100th pick in the third round. He signed with the Cardinals and received a $400,000 signing bonus. He played his first game as a pro with the Class A-Short Season State College Spikes of the New York–Penn League. In that game, he hit two home runs.

In July, the Cardinals sent Bader to the Class A Midwest League to play for the Peoria Chiefs (MWL). He hit 9 home runs in 206 at-bats for Peoria and had a.505 slugging percentage, which put him 10th in the League.
