After a New York Times editorial revealed a previously unknown incident involving the Supreme Court justice while he was a Yale student, President Trump and other Republicans praised the justice.

Following the publication of new information about the allegations of sexual misconduct against Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh by The New York Times on Sunday, a number of Democratic candidates for president demanded his impeachment. Republican leaders criticized the reporting as irresponsible and defended Kavanaugh.

On Twitter, President Trump claimed that media organizations were attempting to persuade the judge to adopt more liberal stances and implied—without providing any further details—that the “Justice Department should come to his rescue.”

The Education of Brett Kavanaugh: An Investigation, a book that two Times writers, Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly, who assisted in covering his confirmation hearings, are writing, was published on Saturday in The Times’ Opinion section.

The reporters said that they investigated the claims of sexual misbehavior and assault at the core of the proceedings for ten months, including one made by Deborah Ramirez, a former Yale classmate. She described being at a very drunken dorm party when Mr. Kavanaugh had shoved his penis in her face, causing her to swat it away and unintentionally touch it.

Although Senate investigators at the time came to the conclusion that Ms. Ramirez’s account lacked support, the authors claimed that at least seven people, including Ms. Ramirez’s mother and two classmates who found out about the incident just days after the party, “heard about the Yale incident long before Mr. Kavanaugh was a federal judge.”

The book also claims that Ms. Ramirez’s attorneys provided the F.B.I. with a list of at least 25 persons who may have corroborated the allegations, but that the agency conducted no interviews with any of them. The extract said that Ms. Ramirez was assured by the two agents that she was “credible” after their questioning.

The writers said that they had discovered a second, unreported event involving Mr. Kavanaugh’s comparable actions at a separate party during his first year.

According to the passage, Max Stier, a former classmate who now leads a charity group in Washington, informed senators and the F.B.I. about what he had seen, but the agency chose not to look into it.

The passage quotes two anonymous officials who had spoken with Mr. Stier, who has chosen not to publicly address the incident. According to the book, the female student denied an interview and her pals claim that she doesn’t remember the encounter. According to the passage, Justice Kavanaugh has declined to comment on it.

Christine Blasey Ford, a professor from California who went to a high school close to Judge Kavanaugh’s in the Washington, D.C., area, spoke about sexual assault claims at the focus of the judge’s confirmation hearing.

She testified that while they were adolescents, he tried to strip her naked while covering her mouth, pushed her to a bed, and touched her. Both women’s accusations against him have been refuted.

A number of Democrats vying for their party’s presidential candidacy commented on the fresh accusations.

Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts commented on The Times column on Twitter, calling the most recent disclosures “disturbing.” “Kavanaugh should be impeached, just like the man who appointed him.”

The demand for impeachment was backed on Twitter by Kamala Harris, a Democratic senator from California who served on the Senate panel that oversaw his confirmation proceedings.

She stated, “He was appointed to the Court through a phony procedure and his appointment to the Court is an affront to the quest for truth and justice.

Joseph R. Biden Jr., a former vice president, called the disclosures “profoundly worrisome” but refrained from asking for Justice Kavanaugh’s removal from office. He demanded a probe into “whether the Trump Administration and Senate Republicans coerced the F.B.I. to dismiss evidence” in a post on Twitter.

The impeachment of justice was also demanded by Bernie Sanders, a senator from Vermont, and Julián Castro, who served as President Barack Obama’s secretary of housing.
