Shocking! Traci Braxton Dies at 50

Toni Braxton paid tribute to Traci, writing, “She was a bright light, a lovely daughter, an amazing sister, a loving mother, wife, grandma, and a recognized singer.”

Traci Braxton, the sister of Toni and Tamar Braxton, has died, according to PEOPLE. She was 50 years old at the time.

Toni made an official announcement on his Instagram

Toni, 54, posted a statement on Instagram on Saturday announcing her sister’s death.

She added beneath a black-and-white photo of herself and her siblings, “It is with the utmost grief that we inform you of the demise of our sister, Traci.”

“Needless to say, she was a bright light, a beautiful daughter, an outstanding sister, a loving mother, wife, grandma, and a respected performer. We’ll miss her terribly “Toni Braxton went on.

“Traci died this morning as the snow began to fall; she is now a snowflake. “We beg that you respect our privacy as we plan to send her home with love and celebrate her life,” the “Un-Break My Heart” band said “added the singer “We will always be family.”

Traci’s death was also confirmed by the Braxton family in a statement received by PEOPLE.

Traci’s husband, Kevin Surratt, confirmed the news of her death in a statement received by PEOPLE, stating that she died following a cancer fight for the past year.

“We have arrived at the point where we must inform the public that our beloved Traci Braxton has gone on to glory after a year of discreetly undergoing a series of Esophageal cancer treatments,” Surratt stated.

A spokesman for Traci tells PEOPLE that she was “surrounded by family and friends at the time of her passing.”

About Traci Braxton

Traci, who was born on April 2, 1971, grew up with her older brother Michael Jr. and sister Toni, as well as her younger sisters Towanda, Trina, and Tamar, 44.
