Amy Meredith Poehler was born in Newton, Massachusetts, to Eileen Frances (Milmore) and William Grinstead Poehler, both high school teachers. Greg Poehler, her brother, is a comedian. She is of Irish, English, Irish, German, and Portuguese ancestry (from her mother) and English, Irish, German, and Portuguese ancestry (from her father).
