Olivia Munn and John Mulaney started dating in May and are now expecting a baby, but the 41-year-old actress has always admired the 39-year-old comedian. Let’s dig further into their unexpected romance.
At a wedding, Munn mentioned how much she admired the former Saturday Night Live writer and his then-fiancee, 36-year-old Anna Marie Tendler. It appears to be Seth Meyers and Alexi Ashe’s 2013 wedding. Mulaney covered his fellow SNL star’s wedding on Martha’s Vineyard for Vogue, and Munn is in the first snap.
Then, after the wedding, I asked, “Do you and your fiance want to go out for supper or something?” Munn talked HuffPost Live about Mulaney in 2015. “‘So, you having fun?’ I kept asking him at the wedding. I was obsessed with seeing and talking to him.”
She says she emailed him but he never replied.
“I probably got the wrong email,” she said. “I tell myself that.”
Mulaney married makeup artist Tendler in July 2014 in NYC. Ms. Munn, who dated Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers for three years until splitting in 2017, supported Mulaney when he checked himself into rehab for addiction concerns last year. As reported by Esquire magazine in 2019, Mulaney began drinking at the age of 13 “for attention” and battled addiction in his teens and twenties.
Munn tweeted in December, the day Mulaney entered rehab, “I’m sending John Mulaney a lot of love. No problem. ❤️⚡️.”
Mulaney and Tendler parted after Mulaney’s 60-day recovery. Sources told Page Six that he had requested a divorce three months previously. Tendler stated Mulaney chose divorce after six years of marriage.
“I am deeply saddened by John’s decision,” she stated. “I wish him well in his recuperation.”
Mulaney reportedly began dating Munn just days later.
“This is new, so they’re taking it easy,” a source told People.
Munn and Mulaney were pictured together in June having lunch in Los Angeles. Mulaney divorced Tendler in July.
On Tuesday, Mulaney announced their pregnancy on Meyers’ late-night show. Mulaney talked about his treatment experience, leaving his house with Tendler, and dating Munn.
In his 2015 standup special, The Comeback Kid, Mulaney famously joked about not wanting children. And their real estate agent, Mulaney added, kept pressuring them to have kids.
“Our realtor wanted us to have a kid more than anyone else. Among our relatives, “said he “She kept hinting at it. Every room we entered, she’d say, ‘This could be an office or a nursery.'”
He indicated he and Tendler wouldn’t have kids, but she remarked, “You never know if you’ll have [babies]. You never know what will happen until it does.”
Munn revealed on her Anna Faris Is Unqualified podcast in 2016 that she had frozen her eggs years before.
“I’m 35,” she explained. “It’s no longer experimental, and I believe every lady should try it. One no longer has to race the clock. You don’t have to worry about it, or your work. It is. It’s also because I see so many ladies going through this. Today is Doomsday, because I am prepared.”
Munn opened up to ET in 2019 about her views on kids and marriage. Her ex-boyfriend, Philadelphia Fusion president Tucker Roberts, dumped her in August.
“I have two dogs and two cats, so that’s a lot of pets. No kids, “said. “It’s a lot. I’m stumped. I’ve realised that I’m already in my happily ever after. And if I want kids or marriage, I’ll do it, but it needs to add to my life. It all has to add up.”
“I already adore my life,” she added. “I’m thrilled for whatever comes my way, but I’ve already reached my definition of happiness. I have great girlfriends. I have pets. I have a job. I’m overjoyed. Anything else must add to my existence.”
Munn recently chatted with ET about her role as a single mother in The Gateway. “Perception versus reality” is something she battles with in Hollywood, she admits.
In some respects, she continued, a perception is a reality no matter how much good you strive to do in the world. You draw on your strong sense of self to overcome any doubts put on you by anyone or anything in the world.
Sometime you feel like you can’t live up to the expectations of others, she added. “This business is not for the faint of heart.”
