At UFC 265, on August 7, 2021, Strickland was supposed to fight Uriah Hall. But Hall’s fight was moved to the main event of UFC on ESPN 28 on July 31, 2021, on June 4, 2021. During his training camp for this fight, he and his sparring partner, Orlando Sanchez, got into a fight. He said Sanchez was hurting him with a dangerous submission move. Strickland beat Hall by a unanimous decision.
Strickland was supposed to fight former UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 268 on November.

Strickland battled Jack Hermansson at UFC Fight Night 200 on February 5, 2022. The fight was decided in a split decision. Twenty-one out of the twenty-one news outlets gave the fight to Strickland. Judge Sal D’Amato’s scorecard, which gave the fight to Hermansson with a score of 48-47, was criticized by a lot of people.
Strickland was supposed to face Alex Pereira at UFC 277 on July 30, 2022. Strickland got knocked out in the first round of the fight.
