Showtime’s “American Rust” had its debut on September 12, 2021. It is based on Philip Myers’ 2009 book of the same name and is set in the perfect setting for a crime drama: an impoverished Rust Belt community in Western Pennsylvania where individuals turn to crime out of desperation. As the ethically conflicted and eventually corrupted chief of police Del Harris, it starred Jeff Daniels in the title role. You wouldn’t be the first person to draw a similarity between that description and another 2021 Pennsylvania crime drama series on a premium cable network that starred an award-winning actor.
Despite the fact that “American Rust” properly reproduced the original material from Myers’ novel and despite its lackluster Season 1 rating (according to TV Series Finale), there was still plenty of possibility for the show to grow in Season 2 and beyond. In July 2019, Showtime ordered “American Rust” for a full season after several years of development hell (via Variety). Season 1 ultimately started filming in March 2021 (through Trib-Live) and made its debut in September 2021 after several pandemic-related delays. Early November saw the end of the season, and as we all know, that also meant the end of the “American Rust” saga.
Who is in the second season cast of American Rust?
There won’t be Season 2 of “American Rust” because Showtime has terminated it as of late January 2022. As a result, fans of the Showtime series will have to bid a final farewell to Jeff Daniels, Maura Tierney, Bill Camp from “The Queen’s Gambit,” David Alvarez from “West Side Story,” Alex Neustaedter from “Colony,” and the rest of the outstanding ensemble cast.

What is the Season 2 storyline of American Rust?

The major change is that Del is now trying to cover up a triple homicide that he committed after spending Season 1 looking into Billy for the death of cop-turned-drug dealer Pete Novick (Jim True-Frost).
