Better Call Saul Season 4 Recap – Everything We Know!

Better Call Saul Season 4 Recap - Everything We Know!

The following contains major plot spoilers for the fourth season of Better Call Saul.

“Everything’s OK, man.”

With those three sentences, Better Call Saul season 4 fulfilled the promise of the series’ title. Only two seasons remain in this terrific Breaking Bad prequel that recounts the development (and descent) of another Albuquerque antihero: Jimmy McGill a.k.a. Saul Goodman. With Better Call Saul season 5 ready to air on February 23, it’s worth taking time to reflect on the previous season that was. Better Call Saul season 4 carried significant implications for the story of Jimmy and what’s to come next for the entity known as Saul Goodman.

In case you lost some of the details, here is a Better Call Saul season 4 recap to refresh you.

Timeline Of Better Call Saul Season 4

Season 4 of Better Call Saul begins in 2003 with the first six episodes. The story moves forward several months in time in episode seven, to some point in 2004.

The Breaking Bad Cameos From Season 4 of Better Call Saul

Just like every prior season of Better Call Saul, season 4 has many cameos from Breaking Bad. Two characters make their series debut in this series featuring Walt’s one-time meth superlab co-worker Gale Boetticher and eventual owner of Vamonos Pest, Ira. In episode three, Gus visits Gale’s school to see if the meth he dropped off is of high enough quality. Episode three sees the return of Ira, who Jimmy has enlisted to help him steal a priceless Hummel figure.

Other Breaking Bad characters returning for the second round of service on Better Call Saul include Gus, Lydia, Huell Babineaux, Francesca (through flash-forward), and The Cousins (Leonel and Marco) (Leonel and Marco).

A History Flash-Forward

Better Call Saul season 4 keeps an essential tradition alive by opening with a black and white flash-forward to Jimmy’s post-crime life as Gene Takovic, a mild-mannered Omaha, Nebraska Cinnabon manager.

Gene is brought to a nearby hospital after suffering a health crisis at work. The good news is that Gene’s heart incident was a false alarm. Bad news: being in an environment where his cover narrative is put to the test has made him incredibly paranoid. At first, it seems like a hospital administrator knows his driver’s license is fraudulent, but in reality, she’s only inadvertently input an “o” instead of a “0” into her computer.

The scary appearance of Gene’s cab driver further adds to the tension of the ride home from the hospital. In addition, he has a baseball team air freshener for the Albuquerque Isotopes. Before he even gets to his flat, Gene calls out for the driver to let him out of the cab.

Having suffered a health scare at work, Gene is rushed to the nearest hospital. The good news is that Gene’s heart incident was a false alarm. Unfortunately, he has a high level of anxiety when confronted with situations that put his cover narrative to the test. At first, it seems like a hospital administrator knows his driver’s license is fraudulent, but in reality, she’s only inadvertently input an “o” instead of a “0” into her computer.

As if his taxi driver is a hitman stalking Gene’s every move, Gene’s ride home from the hospital is much more distressing for Gene. And he has an Albuquerque Isotopes baseball team air freshener to boot. He’s really cool. The taxi hasn’t even gotten to Gene’s apartment yet when he calls out, “Get me out of here!”

Viewers get their first glimpse of Hank (Dean Norris) returning (along with Steven Quezada, though he isn’t shown in the trailer), as Jimmy’s world begins to take on some very evident Breaking Bad overtones. The Extractor, played by the late Robert Forster, will also make an “appearance” in footage recorded for El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, so keep an eye out for him!
