The horror television series “Chucky,” based on the “Child’s Play” horror film franchise, premiered on Syfy and the USA Network on October 12, 2021. Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur) is 14 years old when he buys a Good Guy doll for an art project only to learn that it is possessed by serial killer Charles Lee Ray — as Chucky. After the doll commits multiple murders in Jake’s hometown of Hackensack, New Jersey, Jake becomes a suspect. The series was conceived by Don Mancini, who had previously directed three “Chucky” films and written six in the “Child’s Play” franchise. Mancini also serves as the show’s executive producer and creator.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season of “Chucky” garnered largely positive reviews, with a Tomatometer score of 90% and an audience score of 88 percent. “‘Chucky’ is a treat; a warped, clever, witty, and very droll series with a dash of gore tossed in, but nothing too violent to make your head throb,” commented John Doyle of The Globe and Mail, summarising much of the praise. It’s a comprehensive reimagining.”
According to TV Line, the series has been renewed for a second season, much to the delight of the show’s fans. Here’s all we know about Season 2 of “Chucky” so far.
When Will The Second Season Of Chucky Be Released?
Because the renewal was only announced in November 2021, there isn’t a lot of information about the release date or other details yet. However, executive producer and show runner Don Mancini stated in a statement that the second season will premiere next year.
“We’re excited to be kicking off a second season of puppet mayhem with ‘Chucky,'” Mancini said in a statement. Thank you to our partners in the United States, Syfy, and UCP for their unwavering support and guidance in making ‘Chucky’ bigger and better than ever on television. Chucky also expresses his deepest gratitude to the supporters, as well as a message: ‘This isn’t over, not by a long shot.’ In 2022, you’d better keep a close check on your back!”
Given that the first season premiered in October, around Halloween, the second season is expected to follow suit. We’ll have to wait for more information before we can confirm or deny that rumour.
Who Will Debut In Chucky Season 2?
Zackary In “Chucky,” Arthur plays Jake Wheeler, the protagonist and Chucky’s owner. Arthur appears to be a foregone conclusion based on the cast for the upcoming season. In addition to “Chucky,” Arthur’s other credits include “Kidding” and “Transparent” (via IMDb).
We may also anticipate the return of the remaining core performers — at least those who made it through Season 1 — for Season 2. Jake’s friends Devon Evans and Lexy Cross are played by Björgvin Arnarson and Alyvia Alyn Lind, respectively. Other characters we might see again include Tiffany Valentine (Jennifer Tilly), Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), and Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif).
Teo Briones played Junior Wheeler, Jake’s antagonistic cousin, who was one of the main characters in Season 1. Briones is unlikely to return because Junior did not make it through Season 1. Because her death was not represented on-screen, Christine Elise, who played Kyle in Season 1, has a better chance of returning.
Finally, Brad Dourif plays Chucky, a horrible serial killer. Dourif has been in several “Child’s Play” films, including “Cult of Chucky” in 2017, “Curse of Chucky” in 2013, and even “Child’s Play” in 1988. Dourif, like Arthur’s character, is likely to return for Season 2 — the show is named after him, after all.
What Will Be The Plot Of Chucky Season 2?
The Season 1 finale of “Chucky” aired on November 30, 2021, and left several plot lines open for Season 2 to explore. Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) has been busy recruiting a possessed army, despite Andy’s (Alex Vincent) and Kyle’s (Christine Elise) believe that they have destroyed all of the Chucky dolls. “When a property enters its fourth decade, it is attempting to venture forward into uncharted, undiscovered land,” show runner Don Mancini said in an interview with Bloody Disgusting. And having a collection of Chucky dolls has always appealed to me.” In Season 2, we can certainly expect more from this assassin army.
Fans are eager to find out if Kyle, a fan favourite character who has been presumed dead, is indeed dead, or if she, like many other characters in the “Chucky” franchise, will make an unexpected comeback. Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) amputates all of Nica Pierce’s limbs “in case” Chucky ever regains control of her, putting her life in peril.
In a video interview with SyFy, Alex Vincent was asked if there was anything the actors hoped to see for their characters in Season 2, and he said that forecasting is meaningless since “Don [Mancinivision’s] is frequently not what we would expect, even from people who know him as well as we do.” And it’s because of this that we’re kept guessing, surprised, and entertained.”
