Fans got a closer look at Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness during the 2022 Super Bowl.

The trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Steven Strange, teases the effects of his tinkering with the multiverse.

Here are all of the most stunning revelations in the trailer for Sam Raimi’s come back to the superhero genre, from familiar villains to new heroes, and even the surprise reappearance of a famous character.

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Release Date

Sinister Strange

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ first teaser trailer debuted as a post-credit sequence for Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it saw the sorcerer facing his most terrifying foe yet: himself.

Sinister Strange, who previously appears in What If…?, is seen squaring off against our version of Dr. Strange (or perhaps the other way around), saying, “Things just got out of hand.”

Later in the teaser, when the sorcerer is depicted using his magical talents to tamper with dark forces and gain greater power, the darker version of the character emerges as well.

Sinister Strange, or perhaps Dr. Strange, is shown absorbing demonic entities that develop enormous wings and many arms along his back in the trailer’s closing shot.

Wanda embraces the Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) could be one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s (MCU) next significant villains, according to WandaVision, and the teaser for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seems to support this theory.

Wanda eventually accepted her talents as the Scarlet Witch after her battle with Agatha Harkness in WandaVision, and she is portrayed doing so in the new MCU film, complete with her new costume.

Two versions of Wanda appear in the same scene in one episode, with the “regular” Wanda soothing a distressed Scarlet Witch.

Wanda tells Dr. Strange that it “doesn’t seem fair” that he is a hero for breaking the rules while she “becomes the enemy” for doing the same.

Return of Patrick Stewart as Professor X?

Sir Patrick Stewart, a veteran of the superhero genre, made an unexpected comeback in the trailer.

Stewart’s unique voice is heard as Dr. Strange is compelled to stand trial in front of a secret council, however, his face isn’t visible and it’s not guaranteed that he’ll be reprising his X-Men character Professor X.

In referring to the handcuffed Strange standing in front of him, Stewart says in his trademark lilt, “they should tell him the truth.”

Although it isn’t certain that Stewart will repeat his role as Professor X, Evan Peters returned his role as Pietro Maximoff in WandaVision, so it wouldn’t be the first time a former X-Men character has been in the MCU.

He Who Remains’ Domain

Dr. Strange reflects on his scary dreams in the teaser, claiming he has the same dream night after night before waking up in a nightmare.

A number of scenes are presented as he explains these dreams, including one that shows the domain of He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), which was first shown in Loki.

Although the sequence is brief, it would make sense for Strange to enter the realm given the events of Loki, which resulted in the multiverse being ripped open, and he may very easily meet a form of He Who Remains.

Because Kang the Conqueror is only slated to debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, it’s unknown if that variation will be the prophesied Kang the Conqueror.

Wanda and Photon

Monica Rambeau’s Photon (played by Teyonah Parris) seems to go head-to-head with Wanda in another brief sequence in the trailer.

Photon appears to be attacking Wanda with her newfound powers in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it instant. However, it is unclear why this is the case.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have claimed that the person fighting Wanda is a reincarnation of Monica’s mother, Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), with some even speculating that she is an alternate version of Captain Marvel.
