During the global shutdown of movie theatres, horror aficionados may have been the most affected of all moviegoers. Without pitch black rooms, surround sound, and a general sense of dread, jump scares aren’t the same. To dispel any doubts about horror fans’ fervent devotion, A Quiet Place Part II shattered the box office with a $57 million opening weekend during Memorial Day weekend.

This might be a hint that movies are returning to theatres, but who’d have guessed a horror sequel would beat out Disney’s highly anticipated live-action version, Cruella, for the largest epidemic opening? This is also great news for the upcoming fourth film of The Conjuring series, which will debut this week.

Nearly eight years after the original film’s lasting stamp on the genre, The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It will finally hit theatres. The next series will follow Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators, as they take on a demonic possession defense case. The picture, like nearly every other film, had pandemic-related production delays and was initially intended for a September 2020 theatrical release.
