All good things must come to an end, and on April 9, 2021, that bittersweet day arrived for the ardent Wynonna Earp fans of SyFy’s supernatural-meets-Western series. That’s when the network broadcast “Old Souls,” the eleventh episode of season 4 and most likely the series finale, as SyFy has decided not to renew the program and no other platform has come to the show’s rescue.
The wedding of the show’s adored pair, Waverly Gibson and Sheriff Nicole Haught (ship name: #WayHaught), however, offered viewers something delightful to look forward to heading into the episode.

WayHaught’s relationship started in the first season when then-Officer Haught entered the pub where Waverly worked and started flirting with her. At the conclusion of season 4, episode 6, there was a proposal when Waverly discovered she is bisexual, a boyfriend dumped her, a brave revelation, traded “I love you,” a first argument, supernaturally forced separation, and a passionate reunion.
Planning for the wedding took center stage in the following episodes, but threats to the couple and their family’s safety in Purgatory ultimately took precedence. Everyone has been kept occupied by a deadly fog, a vicious government organization, a family on a quest to wipe out the Earps, and a cowboy-turned-vampire named Doc Holliday.
However, it appeared like Nicole, Waverly, Wynonna, Waverly’s gun-toting hero sister, and the rest of the team had dealt with all of their issues and adversaries in last week’s last episode. After the dust cleared, everyone’s focus was finally directed to the wedding per Nicole’s request.
That was the beginning of this episode. Fans weren’t sure what to anticipate going into it. Would recent threats resurface and cause trouble? It turns out that no. The opportunity to witness each hero finally finding the home and hope they’ve been searching for is what fans generally got, with the exception of a little amount of malevolent supernatural activity.

Nedley, Rachel, and Billy have an uplifting relationship.
Nicole’s protector, teacher, and father figure Nedley, the retired Purgatory sheriff, had lately formed a father-daughter relationship with Rachel, a wayward Purgatory soul who Nicole and Wynonna met while trying to rescue Waverly from the garden. Following WayHaught’s wedding, Rachel and Nedley arrange a fishing trip, and during the celebration, Rachel persuades him to bring Billy Clanton, her crush. Since his sister Cleo abandoned him and the rest of his family passed away, Billy is now alone. Thus, the fishing vacation represents a fresh start for Nedley, Rachel, and Billy.
Regarding the future of all his wards on Wynonna Earp, Nedley has a reason for optimism. Chrissy, his actual daughter, is safely out of Purgatory’s dreadful realm. Nicole, his first adopted child, is with him in Purgatory, continuing his history as sheriff and now wed to the love of her life. He may still feel wanted thanks to Rachel, his new surrogate daughter, which suits him.
While finding her place in Purgatory with her new family, Rachel can rely on Nedley. The fishing excursion takes her out of the home so that the newlyweds may enjoy their seclusion without Rachel feeling like an intrusion, and when she returns, she can feel secure knowing that she is welcome with both WayHaught and Nedley. Billy too has optimism for a new life. He can now be a normal adolescent with his typical crush since he is human once more and the burden of his family’s resentment has been lifted.
Both Rachel and Billy may begin to experience a joyful household with Nedley’s assistance.
Jeremy advances and ascends
Jeremy and a hot caterer named Damon hit it off during the wedding despite an early miscommunication. Jeremy agrees when Damon invites him out on a date. This demonstrates that, as actor Varun Saranga remarked in a behind-the-scenes film, Jeremy is now prepared to let go of Robin. Losing the Robin he knew to the fog has tortured him because he misses him and because he feels bad about robbing Robin of his identity.
But Robin has a new boyfriend and is content with his new appearance. Damon offers Jeremy the option to start again for himself, and Jeremy’s excitement for their date demonstrates his readiness for joy and optimism.
Doc and Wynonna decide what to do next.
At the beginning of the episode, Wynonna is fixated on making sure the wedding is flawless. Melanie Scrofano, who plays Wynonna, speculates in the behind-the-scenes video that this is because most of Wynonna’s experiences on the Homestead have been negative; she lost her sister and father there, and ever since she became the Earp heir, she has fought unending fights there.
That is one effect of the wedding on Wynonna. Another includes a paranormal accident. Before the wedding, Wynonna puts Waverly’s wedding dress on and learns it is cursed; once a bride wears it, she is forced to kill everyone at the wedding. Wynonna, Doc, and Waverly are informed by Brigitte, the witch who cursed the dress, that the spell can only be broken by a person who is genuinely in love, therefore Wynonna’s love for Doc must be genuine. Wynonna then acknowledges that she wished she could have been normal and in love. All of this stresses Doc out.
Nicole and Waverly enjoy their happiness.
Nicole came to Purgatory in an effort to make sense of her past and start a new life in a location she had a strong sense of connection. She began by working as a police officer, after which she met Waverly. She fell in love right away. She is the town’s sheriff at the moment, and Waverly is her wife. She now has the security and feeling of community she’s always desired.
Before, Waverly was a polished version of herself. Despite being the belle of the ball, she didn’t feel genuinely noticed. She dated a man who made fun of her feisty, intelligent side and who she had no interest in. Waverly also experienced loneliness because her mother and only surviving sibling abandoned her.

For many years, her aunt and uncle served as her only family. Then Waverly met Nicole and Wynonna arrived back. Waverly thinks that Wynonna has finally gotten to know her, and although she originally thought Wynonna would never return home, she now knows Wynonna would always come back to her, as she tells Wynonna as she sends her to go after Doc. She has Nicole, so she isn’t really alone either.
