The Mandalorian, the show that gave us Baby Yoda, is back with all-new chapters and familiar faces! The main character we all know and love will be back in Season 3 of the Emmy-nominated live-action Star Wars series, said creator Jon Favreau on Good Morning America.
The return comes after the epic Season 2 finale of 2020, in which Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), one of the original Star Wars actors, made a cameo appearance with Grogu (aka Baby Yoda).
“As I wrote the story, it came to life. The Mandalorian takes a lot from other Star Wars stories, and Favreau has told the Writers Guild of America West that he always keeps that in mind when he writes. “Within the continuity that had been set up, it became clear that certain things were likely to happen.”
When The Book of Boba Fett was announced in the after-credits scene of The Mandalorian Season 2 finale, many fans wondered if it would be the third season of The Mandalorian. But Favreau later said that The Book of Boba Fett is “not part of Season 3 of The Mandalorian.”
“This is the way” to everything we know about Season 3 of The Mandalorian so far until new episodes come out…
Release Date Of The Mandalorian Season 3
On May 26, 2022, it was announced that Season 3 of The Mandalorian would start airing in February 2023.
The Mandalorian Season 3 Cast
At this early stage, the cast of The Mandalorian season 3 is far from set in stone. Din Djarin will be played by Pedro Pascal again, and Grogu will be by his side again. There were worries that Pascal’s other new show, The Last of Us, which is still being filmed, would get in the way of season 3 of The Mandalorian and delay filming, but we’ve since seen that production has begun.
During an interview with EW, Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon, also said that Gideon will probably have a bigger role in the third movie: “I think you’ll be seeing a lot more of me next season. More than likely, you’ll see Moff Gideon a lot.” How very scary…
Carl Weathers is back as Greef Karga, and he confirmed at Steel City Con that he will also be directing again. After The Mandalorian season 2 ends, Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan is likely to come back, especially since Din now has the Darksaber. Ahsoka, played by Rosario Dawson, could be back, but she also has a spin-off coming up and her status after her cameo in The Book of Boba Fett is still unknown.
Christopher Lloyd from “Back to the Future” has also joined the cast in an unknown role.
Also, Sasha Banks, whose real name is Mercedes Varnado, has said that she won’t be back as Koska Reeves in season 3.
Cara Dune, played by Gina Carano, is another character who will not be in the show. Most people thought that in the Rangers of the New Republic spin-off, she would be one of the main characters. But LucasFilm has cut off all ties with Carano because of what she did on social media. She won’t be in season 3 of The Mandalorian because of this, and the Rangers of the New Republic spin-off show has reportedly been canceled.
But what about Bill Burr’s character Migs Mayfeld? The actor told Screen Rant (opens in new tab) the following about season 3: “I really hope so. Jon Favreau and Rick Famuyiwa, who wrote both of the episodes I worked on, for the chance to be a small part of something so big, so good, and so important to so many people. I can’t say anything except that I love being on that show and I hope it keeps going, but even if it doesn’t, I’ve had a great time.”
