In the three-hour season finale episode of “American Idol,” only three hopefuls remain, all hoping to be proclaimed the show’s next winner.
The top five competed for a spot in the finals in front of judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan on Sunday’s episode. The fate of the contestants, as with every other episode of “American Idol,” is eventually decided by the viewers at home.

Only three finalists remain after the latest episode of American Idol, which broadcast live throughout the country on Sunday night (May 15). HunterGirl, Noah Thompson, and Leah Marlene are now fighting for the $250,000 grand prize and a recording contract in Season 20.
Nicolina Bozzo and Fritz Hager were eliminated from the reality television singing competition.
As in previous episodes, live voting began at the start of the broadcast and finished before the final commercial break. In the last seconds of the broadcast, long-time host Ryan Seacrest requested for the lights to dim before revealing the destiny of the remaining hopefuls.
“What an amazing adventure.” “Good luck to all of you as I read the results,” he said the Top 5 hopefuls as they awaited word on who would be sent home and who would continue to compete for the Idol title.
HunterGirl and Thompson are both country musicians, thus a country singer has a good possibility of winning the competition. The finalists, with the exception of Thompson, who was still healing from coronavirus, flew to Las Vegas, where Carrie Underwood is now performing at Resorts World Theatre.
The Season 4 winner and country music superstar served as a mentor on the competition on Sunday. She worked with each contestant to help them learn a song from her award-winning catalog. Finneas, a pop sensation, also appeared on the broadcast and performed his new song “Naked” for the studio audience and at home viewers.
On Sunday, May 22 at 8 p.m. ET, ABC will broadcast the three-hour Season 20 American Idol finale. The evening will feature performances by Carrie Underwood, Thomas Rhett, Gabby Barrett, Sara Bareilles, Ben Platt, Flo Rida, Melissa Etheridge, Earth Wind & Fire, and more.

Since the beginning of American Idol, when judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan handed her the rare platinum ticket, HunterGirl has been a strong contender for the final.
HunterGirl’s golden ticket, which gave her an early start during Hollywood Week and designated her as one to watch, will be remembered by American Idol fans.
HunterGirl later published an Instagram photo from the live event, telling her fans that she had “cried” so much after making it to the Top 3.
“I MADE IT TO THE FINALE!!!” she wrote. I’ve cried so much. Thank you so much for having faith in me. I really like you. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!
Noah Thompson
Noah Thompson, the only male performer in this year’s final, opened with Carrie Underwood’s classic “So Small” and then stunned the audience with his rendition of Larry Fleet’s “Working Man” during his second set.
Thompson was luckily released from quarantine after getting COVID during last week’s event, so he didn’t have to perform this time from his hotel room.

Shortly after the live show finished, Thompson thanked his fans on Twitter for voting for him.
“I came into this competition terrified out of my mind, it’s all so unreal,” he wrote. I’m speechless, man. Thank you for everything, you guys mean the world to me!! This is unbelievable right now.”
Leah Marlene
Leah Marlene was the third contestant to be confirmed for American Idol’s Top 3. She, Fritz Hager, and Nicolina were in a three-way fight, and as Leah’s name was called, she dropped to the stage floor, stunned.
Her performances of “I’ll Stand By You” by The Pretenders and “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” by Journey were enough to win America’s hearts and votes, and she will compete for the top spot next week.
