Career

Anthony Cumia began his career in 1994 after entering a contest hosted by Gregg “Opie” Hughes on his radio show “Nighttime Attitude” and winning an O.J. Simpson parody song. In 1995, Hughes and Cumia debuted the “Opie and Anthony” show on Boston’s WAFF. The two were dismissed from WAFF in 1998 for deceiving the public during an April Fool’s joke. Following that, the “Opie and Anthony” show traveled from radio station to radio station before arriving on XM Satellite Radio in 2004.

SiriusXM suspended Anthony in 2014 after he sent a series of racist and hateful tweets about a black lady who reportedly attacked him in Times Square. Cumia’s firing brought an end to the “Opie and Anthony” program, which had been fading owing to tense relationships. Opie and Anthony were earning $5 million per year at the time of their dismissal.

Following his firing, Cumia launched “The Anthony Cumia Show,” an audio and video podcast. Anthony’s memoir, “Permanently Suspended: The Rise and Fall… and Rise Again of Radio’s Most Notorious Shock Jock,” was released in 2018, and it garnered mixed reviews from critics.
