Jorge Masvidal is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Born in Florida, Masvidal is of Cuban and Peruvian heritage and attended St. Brendan High School where he participated in sports until losing eligibility due to poor grades.
Masvidal made his mixed martial arts debut in 2003 at HOOKnSHOOT: Absolute Fighting Championships 3 and emerged victorious. He faced several opponents such as Joe Lauzon, Keith Wisniewski, Steve Berger, and Yves Edwards in the early stages of his career. In 2009, Masvidal signed a contract with Bellator and competed in the lightweight division, winning his first match via technical knockout.
