Trevor Bauer is a $50 million dollar American professional baseball player. Bauer is well recognized for winning the Cy Young Award in 2020 and leading the National League in ERA (Earned Run Average). Trevor inked a three-year, $102 million contract with the Dodgers in February 2021.

Bauer’s Early Life

on January 17th, 1991, in North Hollywood, California. Bauer attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he threw for the UCLA Bruins baseball team after graduating a year early with a 4.8 GPA from Hart High School in Santa Clarita, California.

Bauer finished his first season with a 9-3 record and a 2.99 earned run average (ERA). Bauer was named to the Baseball America Freshman All-American team as well as the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in 2009. Bauer and the Bruins competed in the 2010 College World Series but were defeated in a two-game sweep by the South Carolina Gamecocks. Bauer was also a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, which is given to the best amateur baseball player each year. Bauer set multiple school records during his final year of collegiate pitching, including strikeouts, wins, and innings pitched. He was also the recipient of the Golden Spikes Award and the National Pitcher of the Year Award. He was also chosen to the All-Pac-12 First Team and was voted Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Year.

Career

Bauer’s professional career began when the Arizona Diamondbacks selected him third overall in the 2011 Major League Baseball draught. Bauer made his major league debut with the Diamondbacks on June 28, 2012, and won his first major league game against the Los Angeles Dodgers just over a week later on July 8. Bauer was dealt to the Cleveland Indians as part of a three-team deal later that year, on December 11th. With a 6-9 record and a 4+ ERA in his first two years with the Indians, he was nothing spectacular.

Bauer chopped up and wounded his pinky finger while working on one of his drones in October 2016, just days before a playoff game. Bauer needed ten stitches to seal the wound, and his ALCS start was moved from Game 2 to Game 3. In Game 3, Bauer’s pinky finger stitches burst, limiting his innings. Bauer pitched in two World Series games against the Chicago Cubs, losing both.

In 2018, Bauer made his first All-Star Game. On August 11, Bauer was struck by a José Abreu line drive, resulting in a stress fracture that kept him out for a month. Bauer didn’t return that year.

The Indians traded Bauer to the Reds on July 31, 2019, as part of a three-team deal. Bauer’s most productive season occurred in 2020, a 60-game season due to the COVID – 19 pandemic. Bauer had a 5.44 ERA in 11 starts. Bauer received 27 of the 30 first-place votes for the National League Cy Young Award, presented annually to baseball’s top pitchers.

On February 11, 2021, Bauer signed a three-year, $102 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The contract is unique in baseball since it includes opt-outs after the first two seasons.
