David Coverdale was born to Winnifred and Joseph Coverdale in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, England, in 1951. He began performing professionally and perfecting his voice at the age of 14. Vintage 67, The Government, and the Fabulosa Brothers were among his early bands.

Career
Deep Purple debuted with Coverdale in 1974. “Burn” went gold in the US and later in the UK. They published “Stormbringer” in December of that year, which went gold in the US and UK. However, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore left the band in 1975 due to his dislike of the album’s soul and funk influences. As a result of this loss, Coverdale pushed Deep Purple to continue with guitarist Tommy Bolin, a former James Gang member. With Bolin, Deep Purple only issued one studio album, “Come to Taste the Band,” which did not meet expectations. Coverdale reportedly went away crying from the band’s tour in March 1976, announcing his departure; Deep Purple’s official separation came in July.
After Deep Purple split, Coverdale embarked on a solo career. Coverdale and English guitarist Micky Moody co-wrote all of the songs on his 1977 debut album “White Snake.” Although the record was a flop, its moniker inspired Coverdale’s later band. Coverdale’s second solo album, “Northwinds,” came out in March 1978.

Personal Life
Coverdale married Julia Borkowski in 1974, and the couple had a daughter, Jessica, in 1978 before divorcing. In 1989, Coverdale married actress and former model Tawny Kitaen. Kitaen appeared in Whitesnake’s music videos for “Here I Go Again” and “Still of the Night,” among others. In 1991, Coverdale and Kitaen divorced. Coverdale later married Cindy Coverdale, a writer with whom he has a son, Jasper.
Coverdale has lived in Incline Village, Nevada, for nearly 20 years. He became a US citizen in 2007.
