Evan Rachel Wood and Marilyn Manson drew public notice early in their relationship, and they haven’t stopped generating headlines in the years since they broke up.
In January 2007, when Wood was 19 and Manson was 36, the two made their relationship public. From November 2005 to December 2007, the “Wrapped in Plastic” rocker was married to Dita Von Teese, who he divorced in December 2007. In August 2015, Wood reflected on her connection with Manson, recalling the public’s heavy scrutiny of his divorce.
Wood said at the time that she “wouldn’t swap any of” her relationship with Manson, who proposed to her in Paris in January 2010, despite their ups and downs. Less than a year later, the former couple called off their engagement.
“I am grateful for what he has taught me. “I just don’t think we were meant to be,” she told the publication.
Wood said that she had been sexually attacked twice six years after her divorce from the “Dope Hat” artist, although she did not name the perpetrators. She defended her decision to keep the assaulters nameless in an October 2017 YouTube video as the #MeToo movement gained pace.
“People are questioning why more women didn’t come forward sooner, and why, in many of these cases, one woman or numerous women will come forward, and then the floodgates will open,” she said at the time. “Plain and simple, they don’t feel safe enough to do so.” I’m also guilty of this because I’ve never named my abusers. … Starting that process is an emotionally, financially, and otherwise difficult thing to do and go through, and I want to do it when I’m ready.
Wood made headlines again two years later when she revealed details of a previous violent relationship. “I was terribly depressed, malnourished, and could scarcely stand.” … “I resorted to self injury two years into my violent relationship,” she wrote in a series of sad Instagram postings in March 2019. “I sliced my wrist to disarm my abuser when he threatened or attacked me.” It simply put an end to the abuse for the time being. I was desperate to end the abuse, but I was too scared to leave at the time.
The True Blood actress accused Manson of grooming and abusing her throughout their relationship in February 2021. Four other women have come out with their own allegations against the Ohio native as a result of her claims.

“My abuser’s name is Brian Warner, also known as Marilyn Manson around the world,” she posted on Instagram. “He began grooming me when I was a youngster and mistreated me horribly for years.” I was duped and brainwashed into servitude. … Before he destroys any more lives, I’m here to expose this dangerous man and call out the numerous industries that have allowed him. I stand with the numerous victims who are refusing to remain silent any longer.

In her 2022 Sundance documentary Phoenix Rising – Part I: Don’t Fall, Wood detailed the alleged assault she endured while working with Manson, claiming that she was “basically raped” by the singer while making the music video for “Heart-Shaped Glasses” in 2007.
“Filming the video was a pretty traumatic experience,” she stated. “Because I had been conditioned and indoctrinated to never speak out, to just soldier through, I didn’t know how to advocate for myself or say no. I felt disgusted and guilty, like if I’d done something wrong. And I could see the staff was in a bad mood, with no one knowing what to do. Under false pretences, I was forced into a commercial sex act.”
In a response to Us Weekly, Manson’s attorney Howard King rejected Wood’s allegations. “Of all the false claims that Evan Rachel Wood has made about Brian Warner, her imaginative retelling of the making of the ‘Heart-Shaped Glasses’ music video 15 years ago is the most brazen and easiest to disprove, because there were multiple witnesses, “According to the lawyer. “Evan was not only completely focused and engaged throughout the three-day shoot, but he was also significantly involved in weeks of pre-production preparation and days of post-production editing of the final cut.” The simulated sex scene was shot over several hours, with multiple takes from various viewpoints and several long intervals between camera settings. Brian did not have sex with Evan on set, and Evan is well aware of this.”
