All About Susan Lucci’s Husband, Late Helmut Huber

Susan Victoria Lucci is an American actress, television host, author, and entrepreneur. She is best known for portraying Erica Kane on the ABC daytime drama All My Children during the show’s entire network run from 1970 to 2011. Her character is considered an icon, and Lucci was called “Daytime’s Leading Lady” by TV Guide, with The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times citing her as the highest-paid actor in daytime television.

Susan Lucci was married to Helmut Huber, an Austrian-born American entertainment industry professional, and entrepreneur. Huber passed away at 84 years old on March 28, 2022. The couple had been married for 52 years, and Lucci has no interest in dating after her husband’s death.

The Beginning Of Susan Lucci And Helmut Huber’s Relationship

Helmut Huber was born in Austria in 1937. In January 1994, he became a US citizen. He was asked to join the Austrian Ski Team when he was young, but he chose to work as an apprentice at the Hotel Maria Theresia instead. Later, he went to L’Ecole Hotelière in Lausanne, Switzerland, and finished at the top of his class.

Huber and Lucci met in Long Island, New York, in the summer of 1965. Lucci was 18 and had just finished her first year at Marymount College as a student. When she met Huber, she had just started working as a waitress at the Garden City Hotel. He was a chef and head of food and beverage service at the eatery. In a June 1999 interview with People, he said it was love at first sight. “It hit me the first time I saw Susie,” he said. “Even now, when she walks into a room, I get all excited.”

Huber was nine years older than Lucci at the time, so she didn’t see him as a love possibility. In 1968, she got engaged to someone else. But when she had her engagement party at the hotel where she used to work, she ran into Huber, and her mother asked him to the party.

In an interview with People in 1999, Lucci said that Huber had told her mother that their engagement wouldn’t last. “Helmut leaned over to my mother and said, ‘This thing between Susie and this boy isn’t going to last,'” Lucci said.
