Russian Doll Season 2 Plot

Nadia and Alan fled the time loop together in Russian Doll season 2, but we now see their lives four years later. The show’s existential themes are continued with comedy and a science-fiction twist.

This time, the duo travel back in time through a vortex in New York City and become entangled in a new kind of loop, one they didn’t realize would have such dire effects. They’re compelled to look for a way out once more.

“The character of Nadia has been sort of my, and I hate to use this metaphor because I’m someone who’s hitting 40; I’m no longer a tween, but remember how [Charles] Bukowski always had Henry Chinaski?” Natasha told Variety of her role as Nadia. Nadia was based on Nadia Comaneci, my favorite gymnast from the 1980s, and I used her in everything I wrote. For the greater part of a decade, it had been a name and a character who had followed me around in my attempts and stabs at writing.

“Nadia isn’t the same as me, and her life isn’t the same as mine. I knew who that person was and why she was making the decisions she was making on a deep, deep level, even from things that had been excluded, as much as any of us in the arts rely on personal matters.”

Russian Doll Season 2 Cast

Charlie Barnett (Chicago Fire) co-stars with Natasha as Alan, who assists Nadia in navigating the odd metaverse that has seeped into their own sense of reality.

Carolyn Michelle Smith (House of Cards), Sharlto Copley (District 9), and Emmy Award-winning Schitt’s Creek performer Annie Murphy are among the new cast members for the second season.

“There are some serious motherf***ers on that Russian Doll show — on a human level — and she’s definitely one of the nice guys,” Natasha said of Murphy’s part.

In the second season, Nadia’s two best friends return. Maxine will be played by Greta Lee from The Morning Show, and Lizzy will be played by Rebecca Henderson from Inventing Anna.

There are reports that Chloe Sevigny, who starred as Nadia’s problematic mother Lenora Vulvokov in season one, may return for the second season of Russian Doll as well.
