After 20 years of marriage, Darius Rucker and his wife, Beth Leonard, announced their separation on July 11.
“We would want to let you know that Beth and I have decided to voluntarily uncouple after giving it some thought. We are still very close friends, co-parents, and support systems for one another. Our lovely family will always come first “Read Darius’ Instagram post.
The statement went on to say: “Our hearts are so full of love for one another, and we’ll keep trying to help one another develop and expand. We ask for your consideration as we embark on this path and are eternally grateful for your love and support. — Beth and Darius Rucker”

When Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin spoke about their split in 2014 in this fashion, the phrase “consciously uncoupling,” which was first used by psychologist Katherine Woodward Thomas, gained popularity. “A proven procedure for peacefully concluding a relationship that will leave you feeling entire, healed, and at peace,” is how Woodward Thomas describes the phrase. In 1998, the pair got acquainted. Beth was employed by VH1 in New York at the time, and Darius was performing with his band, Hootie and the Blowfish, while in town. The “Wagon Wheel” singer said to The Boot that after initially declining him, she ultimately agreed to go on a date one fateful evening. According to the legend, Beth contacted Darius’ hotel room and inquired about his interest in seeing a Broadway performance.
“I’m not sure what it was with her. It was really all about her, Darius said to Country Now. “On our first date, I told her I was going to marry her.”
That evening, when he drove Beth home, Darius let everyone in Beth’s apartment complex know how he felt.
“You realize that I’m going to marry you, right? Well, I replied as she was ascending the stairs to her apartment. Just laughing, “To The Boot, he called. I shouted, “To whoever is up there in Beth Leonard’s apartment, you can just go because I just want you to know that I’m going to marry her!” while she was with her roommate or her boyfriend.
The couple wed on December 9, 2000, and had Daniella as their first child the following year. Their son Jack was then born in 2005. Carolyn, who was allegedly born in 1995 to the artist and his ex-girlfriend Elizabeth Ann Phillips, is also Darius’ child.
Despite the fact that Darius had previously achieved success with Hootie and the Blowfish, Beth greatly influenced his decision to explore country music in the early 2000s.
After experiencing success, “He had to put himself out there to start anew, and that’s incredibly hard,” Beth told Parade. But Darius succeeded in doing so, launching his 2008 album Learn to Live into the country music mainstream.

In fact, it’s been said that his song from the album “Alright” was motivated by his marriage to Beth.
Darius told The Boot in 2018: “With Hootie and the Blowfish, I might be gone for three months, then I’d return home for two days, and then I’d be gone again for a month, and she put up with all that bullshit. I appreciate her every day for being with me and being the strong lady she is.” She and country music, as you may know, saved my life.
