Laura Coates is an American lawyer and a legal analyst for CNN. Since 2017, she has hosted The Laura Coates Show, a talk radio show on SiriusXM’s Urban View. In January 2021, the Laura Coates Show moved to SiriusXM’s POTUS.
Coates has a bachelor’s degree in the arts. Russ Nieli helped him finish his 122-page senior thesis, “The Legacy of Southern Redemption: An Examination of Felon Disenfranchisement Policy.” In 2001, he graduated from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs.

After she finished school in Minnesota, she went to law school. She worked on cases involving the First Amendment, libel, the law of the media, and intellectual property. The first company where she worked was Faegre & Benson LLP. A few years later, she left the firm and went to work at Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman LLP in New York as an associate attorney.
She went from being a private attorney to being a state attorney after that. After that, she began working as a prosecutor for the U.S. Department of Justice. During the Bush and Obama administrations, Mrs. Coates worked as a trial lawyer.
As part of her long list of jobs, she was also an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. She has successfully prosecuted a number of violent felony cases, such as armed crimes, drug trafficking, child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence, among many others.
When Laura Coates became CNN’s senior legal analyst, people all over the world started to know about her. At the network, her job was to give advice about civil rights and criminal prosecution. This also let her fill in for Don Lemon as an anchor.
She talked about what CNN did during President Donald Trump’s impeachment as a member of the CNN team. She was in charge of a show called “The White House in Crisis: The Impeachment Inquiry” while the trial was going on.
