Since 1971, Stephen King has been married to Tabitha King, a fellow author. While working at the library at the University of Maine, the two fell in love. After hearing Tabitha perform creative pieces of poetry, the Master of Horror decided she was the one. They married not long after they graduated.
On January 2, 1971, King married Tabitha Spruce. She is a novelist as well as a philanthropist.
The Kings have three children, two sons and a daughter, as well as four grandchildren.

Stephen King Struggled With Drug And Alcohol Addiction
King is very forthright about his drug and alcohol use. Several of his novels were written with “cotton swabs jammed up his nose” in the 1980s. He did this in order to avoid nosebleeds caused by cocaine abuse.
In fact, King admits to being so inebriated while writing that he has no recall of particular books being published. For example, the author has no recollection of creating Cujo, a best-selling novel from 1981.
“There’s one novel, Cujo, that I barely remember writing at all,” he wrote in his autobiography. I don’t say it out of pride or embarrassment, but rather out of a vague sense of sadness and loss. That novel appeals to me. And I wish I could recall how much I enjoyed the good bits as I wrote them down.”
Tabitha, who had two children at the time, had become tired of King’s drug and alcohol abuse. She eventually sought for her husband’s assistance. He’d be kicked to the curb if he didn’t get his act together.

“The point of this intervention, which was as painful for my wife and children as it was for me, was that I was dying right in front of their eyes.” Tabby told me I had two options: go to a rehab or go out of the house. She said that because she and the kids loved me, none of them wanted to see me commit myself.”
Stephen King has been clean and sober for many years.
According to The Guardian, King has remained clean for decades as a result of his family’s intervention. In his memoirs, he claims that he is now a man who has “no hangover.”
