Heinicke wasn’t picked in the 2015 NFL Draft, but he signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Vikings. Between minicamp and training camp, Heinicke hurt himself off the field and was put on the reserve/NFI list on September 3, 2016. He became part of the team on November 8, 2016.
Heinicke joined the New England Patriots’ practice squad on September 23, 2017. On October 9, 2017, he was set free.
Heinicke joined the Houston Texans’ practice squad on November 29, 2017. Heinicke’s first NFL game was on December 25, 2017, against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Texans cut ties with Heinicke on April 13, 2018.
Heinicke was put on waivers on April 16, 2018, and the Carolina Panthers picked him up. Heinicke re-signed with the team on March 12, 2019, but on August 30, 2019, he was cut from the team’s roster.
